Eleanor Hughes is a working painter and collage artist. She was born in Tennessee and grew up in Georgia. Eleanor's collages and paintings are a composite of experience in several cultures and a compassion for the decorative aspects of nature. She received her BFA at the University of Georgia, studied in Spain, attended Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, and continued graduate work at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. In 1981, she opened Tropico, a design studio and storefront specializing in fine art and hand painted fabrics. To broaden her subject base, Eleanor moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico in 1987 and continued painting in oil. From Santa Fe, she and her husband, Curt, moved to Washington, D.C. for several years and then to Solomons, Maryland on the Chesapeake. Eleanor returned to St. Augustine, Florida in 1994 and works expressively in her representational and plein air painting and collage. She lives with her husband and 16 year old daughter.
Mrs. Hughes is also president of Hughes Bowman Design Group, Inc., a consulting firm that plans, designs, and produces museum exhibitions throughout Florida.
